Michael Certo is a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he also completed his residency in pediatrics. He earned an MD from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, a Master’s in Music from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University. Michael is interested in ethical issues surrounding surrogate decision making in pediatric critical illness, child abuse, and pediatric end-of-life care, as well as narrative medicine. His clinical research includes projects on improving physician-generated reports of child physical abuse and on moral distress and parental burnout in caregivers for chronically ill children.
