Pediatric Grand Rounds: Type 1 Diabetes—Beyond the textbook
Dorothy Becker MB.,BCh
Prof Pediatrics , Division of Pediatric Endocrinlogy and Diabetes
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are by conventual considered 2 distinct and separate disorders . I will discuss different approaches and the need for reclassification of diabetes . There is increasing evidence of heterogeneity of both these disorders and I will show some of this for Type 1 diabetes and discuss potential implications for prevention strategies and focus on one that has been submitted to the FDA for approval. There have been enormous advances in the treatment of Type1 diabetes leading to delays and prevention of its complications, but a cure with no treatment needed remains a goal and a distant hope . Therefore , T1D needs to be prevented
