Dr. Robert Binder spoke with The Neighborhood Academy students!

Robert Binder, PhD (Professor, Department of Immunology) returned to speak with 3 science classes at our community partner, The Neighborhood Academy! The Neighborhood Academy is a private, college preparatory high school and middle school whose mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty by empowering youth and preparing them for college and citizenship. 100% of their senior students are accepted into college. Dr. Binder followed up with students he visited before who are now 8th-graders and answered followed up questions after his previous presentation. He also spoke with two 10th-grade science classes as they are preparing their school-wide science fair. His presentation entitled "Who and what is a scientist?" touched on why scientists are so important and what the profession is like. He worked through a fun interactive thought experiment demonstrating the scientific method. The students were excited to hear his story and asked many engaging questions. We hope that the students are inspired by his journey and will begin a journey of their own!
